The Paul Janssen Lecture has been a regular feature of the academic calendar at the Institute of Psychiatry for approximately 20 years and has always been highly successful and well received. Lecturers are chosen on the basis of their global eminence in the field of neurosciences in relation to schizophrenia and their skills as communicators. The lecture is named in honour of the brilliant Belgian pharmacologist (1926-2003), discoverer of major drugs in psychiatry such as haloperidol who founded Janssen, the pharmaceutical company which sponsors the event.
