“Genius in the Humanities and the Sciences: Milton and Darwin – Two views of creation” – Sir Paul Nurse

Blackwell’s Bookshop and the Bodleian Library are delighted to welcome Sir Paul Nurse to Oxford to talk about John Milton and Charles Darwin. In this intriguing lecture, Paul Nurse will compare ‘Paradise Lost’ and ‘The Origin of the Species’ and their contrasting views of the origins of biological diversity and explore the similarities and differences between creativity in the humanities and the sciences. This is one of a series of talks being held to celebrate the wonderful Marks of Genius exhibition at the Weston Library.

Sir Paul Nurse is a geneticist who works on what controls the division and shape of cells. He was Professor of Microbiology at the University of Oxford, CEO of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund and Cancer Research UK and President of Rockefeller University New York. He is currently Director and Chief Executive of the Francis Crick Institute and is currently President of the Royal Society. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 2001 and the Royal Society Copley Medal in 2005.
