Blackwell’s Bookshop and the Bodleian Library are delighted to welcome Stanley Wells to Oxford to talk about William Shakespeare.

This is one of a series of talks being held to celebrate the wonderful Marks of Genius exhibition at the Weston Library.

Stanley Wells is one of the world’s most respected Shakespeare scholars. In his own words: “Shakespeare is a source of aesthetic pleasure and intellectual stimulus to millions. There is no holding him back. He is in the water supply, and is likely to remain there until the pipes run dry.” In this lecture, Stanley Wells will address the aspects of William Shakespeare which make him the most celebrated and influential literary colossus in history. In particular, Stanley Wells will explore the pleasure of Shakespeare’s use of language, his sense of theatre, his awareness of the needs of actors and the enduring relevance of his exploration of the human condition.
Tickets for this talk, costing £12, include a Private View of the Marks of Genius exhibition as well as a glass of wine. Private View from 6.15pm, talk 7pm to 8.15pm. Tickets are available from the Customer Services Department at Blackwell’s Bookshop.
