About this talk

A Middle Temple Employed Bar Society event in association with the UCL Centre for Ethics & Law and the UCL Judicial Institute. This event will consider the key legal, ethical and practical considerations facing advocates and the judiciary when deciding whether, and if so how, to use AI. An esteemed panel of judges, including ICC Judge Mullen, and academics will be discussing the following broad themes: Judicial use of AI - including insights from judges on the use of AI; Advocates' use of AI - judicial experiences to date, expectations and concerns; Forecasting AI use – potential future uses and the implications that this may have on justice. The aim of the event is to provide a forum for discussing pressing issues facing advocates when considering the use of AI. Topics for discussion include: Recent hallucination cases, Obligations to the court, Professional ethical duties, When can, or when should, advocates use AI, What is needed to ensure responsible AI use in litigation. 17:30-18:00 - Doors open; 18:00-19:00 - Panel Discussion; 19:00-20:00 - Drinks Reception (sponsored by the UCL Centre for Ethics & Law).
