About this talk

Kelsey Farish provides an overview of three of AI's legal hotspots in the screen sector: copyright, confidentiality, and transparency drawing on recent disputes and regulatory developments in the UK, EU, and US. Topics covered include: Copyright - who (if anyone) owns AI-generated outputs, the UK's opt-out approach, and the current wave of litigation on both sides of the Atlantic; Confidentiality and data use - what happens when scripts or other materials are fed into third-party tools, and how seemingly innocuous workflows can trigger serious legal and commercial risk; Transparency and labelling - the growing expectation and in some cases obligation that producers and creatives disclose how AI is being used within their projects. The event is organised as part of the MA Film and Screen Media Invited Speakers Series in collaboration with the Birkbeck Institute for the Moving Image (BIMI) and the Centre for Creative AI.
