Being Bionic brings Patrick Kane's award winning book Human 2.0 to life. Centering around the incredible real world people featured in the book: athletes, inventors and pioneers who use technology to do extraordinary things, and what we can all learn from their stories. Patrick will talk about the leading-edge of medical engineering, exploring how innovations are transforming human capability. From cochlear implants and pacemakers to neural implants and bionic limbs, he will showcase how technology is restoring movement, sound, and creativity to people around the world. Tracing the evolution of human bionics from ancient prostheses to today's bio-integrated devices, it celebrates ground-breaking achievements while asking bold questions about the future of human enhancement. Patrick will also share his own story of becoming a triple amputee as a baby, growing up with prosthetics, and becoming the youngest person in the world to be fitted with a bionic arm, all of which shaped his view of the world and led him to becoming an author. He'll explore what being "bionic" really means for everyone - showing the audience that difference is an essential part of humanity, curiosity can change the world, and the future belongs to those brave enough to imagine it. A copy of Patrick's book 'Human 2.0: A Celebration of Human Bionics' will be available for purchase and signing after the talk. This is a theatre event for children and adults to enjoy together. We recommend our family talks for children aged 7–13, though they can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. All young people under the age of 13 need to be accompanied by a paying adult and those aged 4 and above need a ticket to attend. The theatre doors will open at approximately 1.45pm, with a prompt start at 2.00pm. Latecomers will be admitted into the gallery.
