About this talk

As digital platforms increasingly provide the backbone for global economic and social exchanges, the ownership, governance and management of such platforms have become contested and influential issues. This CIMR Debate in Public Policy involves several experts who have examined some critical issues around digital platforms, namely: their impact on aggregate demand with possible stagnationist tendencies; their involvement with the military-industrial complex; and their effects on regional economic development and particular regional inequality. The panel of experts participating in this Debate will grapple with some of the problems around the increasing power and influence of digital platforms, and will discuss implications for policy, business and society. Speakers: · Grazia Ietto-Gillies (London South Bank University) - Monopoly Capitalism in the digital era · Dario Guarascio (La Sapienza University of Rome) - Digital platforms and the military-industrial complex · Fred Guy (LUISS Business School) and Simona Iammarino (Gran Sasso Science Institute) - Big Tech, monopoly and regional inequality
