The Home Naval Dockyards include Chatham, Deptford, Pembroke, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Sheerness and Woolwich plus a string of overseas yards. At one time, the Naval Dockyards were the largest civilian employers in the world. By 1815, the Dockyards employed about 20,000 workers. There were even more workers during World War 1 and World War II.

In this talk Philip MacDougall:
– Gives a brief outline of the work carried out in the Dockyards.
– Describes the type of employment used.
– Explains the nature of the available records to help you trace your Dockyard ancestors.
