About this talk

Join us for an evening with Stephen McDonell, the BBC's China Correspondent, as he shares insights from over two decades of reporting on one of the most complex, rapidly changing, and tightly controlled media environments in the world. From the economic booms and political shifts to the unprecedented challenges of reporting during global lockdowns, McDonell has been delivering ground-level reality from China to international audiences. Stephen will talk about the evolving nature of foreign journalism in China, the day-to-day realities of reporting under state surveillance, and how the relationship between China and the West is shifting from the perspective of those on the ground. This event is held in partnership with the China Correspondents' Club of London.
