About this talk

Transforming the energy system is one of the defining challenges of the twenty-first century. Meeting growing energy needs while tackling climate change will require not only new technologies, but also innovation across the energy system. From clean energy, storage, and smart grids to artificial intelligence and energy efficiency, innovation is reshaping how we generate, manage, use energy. Yet technological advances alone are not enough: their impact depends on the policies, institutions, markets, and incentives that enable new ideas to be developed, deployed, and adopted at scale. This public event explores how innovation can accelerate the transition to a cleaner, more secure, and sustainable energy future. It considers how governments, businesses, researchers, and communities can create the conditions for innovation to flourish, while ensuring that its benefits are widely shared. Drawing on examples from academia and industry, the lecture will explore both the opportunities and challenges of turning promising innovations into real-world solutions. Join us on campus or register to watch the event online at LSE Live.
