About this talk
What are the albums that have shaped our understanding of moments in history? What do their album covers represent? This listening session dissects some of the albums featured in the exhibition. From The Roots' Things Fall Apart, and Max Roach's Percussion Bitter Sweet, to Fela Kuti's Zombie and Lucky Dube's The Other Side, music has been pivotal in teaching generations about musicality, society and politics of the time. In this deep listening session with music curator and researcher, Imani Thomas (Saige Sounds), and DJ scholar Lynnée Denise, join us in examining the album covers and music that have shaped movements, as shown in the Project A Black Planet: The Art & Culture of Panafrica exhibition. Complementing the exhibition, this specially curated strand of listening sessions invites audiences into the Gallery across three Friday nights to view the exhibition before an opportunity to reflect collectively via a thought-provoking, multi-disciplinary session. Ticket to this event also include access to view the Project a Black Planet: Exhibition between 6PM-8PM. The listening session will start at 8:30PM. Age recommendation: 14+. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
