About this talk
Discover two remarkable examples of bidriware from the SOAS Collections in this special Object in Focus session. Bidriware is a distinctive metalworking tradition in India, celebrated for its striking contrast between gleaming silver inlay and a deep black surface. Through close examination of objects from the collection, this workshop will explore the techniques used to create bidriware, its historical development, and the wider stories of craftsmanship, trade and cultural exchange that these objects reveal. Part of the SOAS Gallery Object in Focus series, this session offers a rare opportunity to engage directly with collection objects and learn more about the histories and material traditions they embody. Led by Lucy Kauser, SOAS Gallery Collections Officer and SOAS PhD Candidate in the History of Art.
