About this talk

The introduction of the National Security Law of Hong Kong in 2020 has brought about significant changes to how Hong Kong manages the freedom of speech. This panel discussion will examine if its judicial establishment has managed to uphold the freedom of speech, where matters stand with academic and press freedom, and what those working to uphold the freedom of speech may expect to find in today’s Hong Kong. It will further discuss the scope for the UK and governments in democracies elsewhere to support the freedom of speech in Hong Kong. Registration This event is open to the public and free to attend; however, registration is required. This event is taking place on campus and will not be recorded or live-streamed. Organiser This event has been organised by the SOAS China Institute. Image credit: Chi Ung Wong on Unsplash
