About this talk

There are two futures for copyright in the age of AI. The first is to strengthen the traditional regime with incremental changes, shoring up old protections and introducing new ones. The other is to replace it entirely. This lecture argues for the latter. The inherited copyright regime is no longer fit for purpose, and neither pursuing ‘more copyright’ or ‘less copyright’ will work. Instead, we must return to first principles and design a new framework, just as the Internet encouraged innovations like ‘Creative Commons’, but at a far greater scale.
