About this talk

Inspired by the sketchbooks Richard Dadd filled on his Grand Tour, this online class explores drawing as a means of documenting the places you visit. During the 19th century, artists travelled across Europe and beyond in search of inspiration, filling sketchbooks with studies of landscapes, architecture and everyday life. During this Saturday Sketch Club, we will take the travel sketchbook as our starting point, learning by drawing directly from observed scenes and working quickly to create studies that capture the character and atmosphere of a place. Our Saturday Sketch Clubs are a series of online monthly art classes led by artists. Whether you're a beginner or a practising artist, these live-streamed classes are designed for everyone. Classes take place online via a live webinar. We'd love you to share your work online. Post your drawings to Instagram using the hashtag #RASketchClub, or join our Facebook group to connect with more than 3,000 members of the Sketch Club community. For this class, all you need is a pencil, some paper and an eraser. We'll send you an access link by 3pm the day prior to the event. Live closed captioning (CC) is available. Purchase three classes in a single transaction and receive a £5 discount at checkout.
