About this talk
Space-filling curves are surprising mathematical objects that challenge our common-sense notion of what a curve is. Unlike ordinary curves, they can pass through every point in a region such as a square. The best-known examples can be built from visually simple repeating patterns. In this talk, I will explain how these curves are constructed and show why they are useful in many practical areas of computing. He held research posts at both the Institute for Mathematical Sciences and the Department of Statistics at Imperial College London before joining Birkbeck, University of London, in 2012. His research interests include statistical pattern recognition, spatial point pattern analysis, and practical applications of machine learning.
