About this talk
Louis Chude-Sokei in conversation with David Katz and Ayesha Hameed on the legacy and futures of Lee "Scratch" Perry. Writer and scholar Louis Chude-Sokei hosts a conversation with David Katz, acclaimed author of People Funny Boy: The Genius of Lee "Scratch" Perry, and artist Ayesha Hameed, whose work explores the legacies of indentureship and slavery through the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Chude-Sokei curated Spatial...No Problem as an installation for Carnegie Hall's 2022 Festival of Afrofuturism and collaborated with Mouse on Mars on the titular album. He brings his deep engagement with Caribbean music and history to a discussion on the ongoing impact and living legacy of Lee "Scratch" Perry and the Black Diaspora. Hameed's speculative, interdisciplinary practice spans performance, sound and moving image, while Katz offers decades of research into Perry's work and influence. Together, they explore Perry's enduring impact. Stage Times: Doors 7pm, Installation playback from 7pm - 8pm, Panel discussion at 8pm
