About this talk
This symposium features Melissa Lane (Gresham Professor of Rhetoric) and Quentin Skinner (Emeritus Professor of Humanities, Queen Mary, University of London), chaired by the Provost of Gresham College, Jane Shaw. Building on presentations from Lane (on the Greek roots of rhetoric) and Skinner (on Renaissance and early modern developments of classical Greek and Roman rhetoric), the conversation among symposiasts and audience will explore both positive and negative uses of rhetoric in public life and communication today. This event is also available to watch live online.
