About this talk

A Professorial Lecture by Victoria Showunmi that explores what it means to keep moving when the usual routes to progress fall away. Drawing on moments that have shaped Prof. Showunmi's own thinking and research, this talk reflects on how identity and resilience can become powerful sources of strength. Rather than viewing setbacks as endings, the lecture will consider how they can prompt us to rethink who we are, what we value, and how communities support each other through challenges. The lecture will speak to anyone who has ever felt the ladder shake beneath them, and it will invite all of us to imagine new paths toward empowerment. The aim is to offer an open and uplifting space to explore how we can navigate uncertainty and create opportunities for transformation.
