X-10 presents Power in the Land. Sunday December 6th – 2.00pm – 5.30pm. Free

Power in the Land brings together a dynamic and diverse group of ten artists to explore issues of nuclear energy and the land. Themed around the Wylfa nuclear power station, Wales’ last nuclear plant and the world’s last Magnox reactor, the project is presented to coincide with the shutdown of the plant in December 2015.

The evening will include presentations by artists from the X-10 group, and will preview work from their forthcoming 2016-17 touring exhibition.

Speakers at the event will include Ele Carpenter, Lecturer in Curating at Goldsmiths, and Chris Warwick, Communications Manager at the Culham Science, and reflect on Oxfordshire’s position as the spiritual home of Britain’s nuclear industry, from its birth at Harwell to the ongoing nuclear fusion research at Culham.

This is part of a three week residency at Modern Art Oxford Film Studio project. Running throughout each day we will be presenting a rolling screening programme of films drawn from our archive which will include drama, documentary, dance and experimental, giving you an opportunity to see a raft of film made in Oxford from the 1980’s through to present day. A rolling loop will be projected in the education room, offering an eclectic mix of programming to suit all tastes. In addition there will be individual screens where you will be able to select genre and titles.

In addition to the screening programme we will be holding events and activities showcasing Film Oxford projects.

All screenings and events are open to the public and are free.
