Dr Evan. S Medeiros served for 6 years in the the White House’s National Security Council as President Obama’s top Asia and China adviser, departing in June 2015. He previously worked at the RAND Corporation for 7 years as a senior political scientist conducting research on the international politics of the Asia-Pacific, Chinese foreign and security policy and US-China relations.
He has numerous publications in these research areas, including: China’s International Behavior: Activism, Opportunism, and Diversification and Reluctant Restraint: The Evolution of China’s Nonproliferation Policies and Practices.
This lecture will explore the dynamic interaction between economics and security in the Asia-Pacific. Specifically, it will examine how the rapidly changing economic situation in the Asia Pacific – the region-wide growth slowdown – is changing political and security relationships in Asia. Particular focus will be given to how these dynamics will affect China’s strategy in Asia and the US-China relationship.
All are welcome. This event is organised by the Asian Studies Centre, St Antony’s College, with the support of the University of Oxford China Centre.
