Sir Muir Gray believes that the most important type of healthcare is what you do for yourself.

The author of “Sod 70!” and other works argues in this talk that knowledge is the greatest enemy of disease. Applying what we know already will have a bigger impact on health and disease than any drug or technology likely to be introduced in the next decade.

Muir Gray will outline the importance of a health knowledge service, delivered by libraries – the best source to help us find the information we need. A library is therefore a health knowledge service as well as a lending service and the NHS needs the support of libraries if it is to survive.

Sir Muir Gray is Consultant in Public Health, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, and former Chief Knowledge Officer of the NHS. His talk is being given in support of the fund-raising work of the Friends of Summertown Library
