About this talk

On Friday 12th June 2026, 4-5:30pm, CBS will be hosting a book launch and discussion for Jaimee van Gemerden’s book ‘The Faithfulness of Self-Realisation: No Longer an Object’, published by Routledge. This book considers the issue of objectification faced by women within the Christian religion and makes a theological case for the pursuit of selfhood, as understood in an existentialist ontology, which is not selfish or individualistic. Ultimately, this volume shows that the self is no longer something to lose or hide in dependence on an Other, there is no longer an imperative to be objectified, but, rather, there is an encouragement to self-realisation as part of a faithful relationship with God. This event will be held in the Collier Room and will feature the author in conversation with Kate Kirkpatrick as well as a drinks reception. All welcome, registration is free via TicketSource.
