Children and young people are our future and giving them the best start in life is vital for individuals, families and society.

It is known that investment in pregnancy, early childhood and education makes a huge difference to health and life chances throughout life.

Nurses, midwives and allied health professionals are well placed through their knowledge, skills and relationships with patients, families and communities to have a significant impact at the key stages of our development.

As this lecture will explore, to make the best start a reality for all our children we need to share and build on good
practice and address the inequalities that persist.
