Historians of emotions try to reconstruct the emotional world of different eras. They aim not only to recover what me and women said they felt in the past, but also to reveal how emotions created, formed, and sustained personal, familial, and social relationships and identities. Joanne explores how
the meanings attached to feelings are socially and culturally constructed and therefore help to explain why ideals and standards of behaviour change over time.
