Tuesday 9th February, 6:30 for 7pm start, with:
Dr Miguel Farias and Dr Catherine Wikholm
“The Buddha Pill: Can meditation change you”

The excitement about the application of mindfulness meditation within a variety of
settings has led to the proliferation of literature pervaded by a lack of conceptual
and methodological self-criticism.

In this talk we will raise concerns about the universalist expectations of mindfulness
efficacy and its mental health applications.

Dr Catherine Wikholm is a clinical psychologist working in NHS child and adolescent mental health services, and Dr Miguel Farias is an experimental psychologist and head of the Brain, Belief, & Behaviour group at Coventry University. Miguel and Catherine wrote together ‘The Buddha Pill’, a book examining the last 45 years of research on meditation.

The talk will be held in the function room in Wig & Pen pub.
The venue is wheelchair accessible.
