When Chris travels with his girlfriend to meet her family at their secluded estate, an uncomfortable weekend soon spirals into something far more sinister. A suspense-filled horror-thriller directed by Jordan Peele that explores racism, privilege and paranoia with biting social satire. Part of Black Horror in “Post-Racial” America: Fear on Film After Obama through Trump 2.0. This screening takes place at the Cinema in the Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities. Pre-screening event with The Evolution of Horror and Truth & Movies: Little White Lies podcasts Join us for a pre-screening podcast and discussion about Get Out with Mike Muncer and Becky Darke of The Evolution of Horror and Leila Latif, cultural critic and film journalist for the Total Film, the BBC, Sight and Sound and The Guardian and host of Truth & Movies: A Little White Lies podcast. This event is complimentary for ticket holders for the film screening. About the series Black Horror in “Post-Racial” America: Fear on Film After Obama through Trump 2.0 is a week of screenings exploring the rise of contemporary Black horror cinema and the genre’s power to confront histories of racism, violence and inequality. Featuring landmark films including Get Out, Us, Candyman, Sorry To Bother You and Sinners, the series examines how horror can unsettle dominant narratives, challenge systems of power and reimagine America’s relationship to race, class and identity.
