About this talk

Set against the backdrop of three continents, Shades of Survival explores the lives of Black women in Africa, the UK and the USA, who have navigated a breast cancer diagnosis, and use their voices to break the silence on the disease. The film celebrates their resilience, as they confront shame and demand equitable care. With stunning cinematography, episodes of poetry and dance, interlaced with deeply personal stories, the film offers a stark look at the health care systems too often fail Black Women. Shades of Survival is not a typical documentary. It is created as a feature film about real people and a compelling narrative of resilience, community and the ongoing fight for healthcare equity. “Shades of Survival is ultimately about hope. The film exists to spark change and save lives.” David Ayeni, Director of Shades of Survival Watch the film trailer: https://shadesofsurvival.life/
