About this talk

A celebratory evening marking the 50th anniversary of the publication of The Selfish Gene. This special event will bring together leading figures in evolutionary biology to reflect on the book's origins, impact and enduring legacy. Fifty years after its publication, The Selfish Gene continues to shape scientific thinking and inspire debate across biology and beyond. The evening will begin with a lecture by Alan Grafen FRS, Professor of Theoretical Biology. This will be followed by an on-stage interview with Professor Richard Dawkins, conducted by Professor Marian Dawkins, exploring the ideas behind The Selfish Gene and its influence over the past five decades. There will then be a live Q&A with the in-person audience.
