John Dugard and Daniel Machover will be speaking as part of Oxford Israeli Apartheid Week 2015. The event will be chaired by Dr Karma Nabulsi, St Edmund Hall.
Professor John Dugard SC, a silk since 1998, is renowned for his expertise in public international law, jurisprudence, human rights and criminal procedure. He has been a Professor and visiting Professor at a number of universities worldwide, has served on several UN bodies and is a Judge ad hoc in the International Court of Justice. He is one of South Africa’s foremost international law experts and has been awarded South Africa’s highest civilian service award for his achievements in international law.
Daniel Machover is a partner at London law firm Hickman and Rose. He is the head of the civil litigation department and specializes in international human rights law, civil actions against the Ministry of Justice, Home Office and police. Daniel Machover is also Chair of INQUEST, the charity which provides a specialist, comprehensive advice service to bereaved people and others on contentious deaths and their investigation. He was also the Co-Founder of Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights in 1988 and has been working with victims of international crimes since 2005. His firm secured the only judicial arrest warrants ever issued in the UK against Israeli war crimes suspects and is acting for the victim of alleged torture in Nepal where a defendant is this month (February 2015) facing trial at the Central Criminal Court, the second such prosecution to ever be brought in the UK under ‘universal jurisdiction’ principles.
