With the hope of rescusitating a debate regarding the question of where exactly our University’s money is spent, the Oxford Students’ Palestine Society has invited three experts to ORF to talk on arms and the arms trade. On a panel focusing mainly on Israel’s role in the industry, these three academics will elucidate the nature and effects of the trade, and our opportunities to tackle it.
Dr Jamie Allinson, a research fellow at the University of Westminster, who has recently written a paper on drones and post-human warfare, will be focusing on the use of drones in situations of occupation and neo-colonial conflict.
Leila Stockmarr, a visiting PhD student at SOAS writing a paper on the political economy of the Israel’s homeland security industry, will be speaking on the country’s commercialisation of its own war experiences in Palestine, with a focus on cyber security and urban planning/security.
David Wearing, a PhD student at SOAS and a visiting lecturer at the University of Westminster, will be speaking about his research for a report on the UK arms trade with Israel, soon to be published by War on Want and Campaign Against the Arms Trade.
