Bill Reid (1920-1998) brought the art of the Haida Nation to international attention across his career, and inspired many Haida artists who carry on and develop their unique traditions.
Nika Collison, curator of the Haida Gwaii Museum, author, scholar, and granddaughter of Bill Reid, and Gwaai Edenshaw, artist, scholar, and Bill Reid’s final apprentice, offer personal reflections on Bill Reid, his art, and his legacy.
Both Nika and Gwaai have worked extensively with the Pitt Rivers Museum on projects to create access to material heritage for Haida people. Lady Margaret Hall’s art collection includes several prints by Bill Reid. This Canada Seminar promises to be a unique celebration of Haida art, of Reid’s role in its development, and of its role today.
The Seminar starts promptly at 5.15pm in the Simpkins Lee Theatre and finishes with a drinks reception in the Monson Room. The event is free to attend and guests are welcome.
