FROM CONFLICT TO UNITY: RWANDA, 1994 AND BEYOND
2014 marks the 20th Anniversary of the Rwanda Genocide. We would like to invite you to attend a panel discussion that will discuss Rwanda in 2014 as it moves forward following the momentous events of its past, and how it can continue to build unity in the years to come.

This event is being run by a team of Civil Service Fast Streamers to support the vitally important work carried out by The Survivors Fund (SURF), which continues to rebuild the lives of survivors of the Rwandan genocide.

We are privileged to confirm the following speakers for the panel discussion:

Samantha Hunt (SURF Chair) – Extensive experience working with survivors in Rwanda and with the charity SURF, who work to help survivors overcome the challenges that they continue to face.

Prof Miles Hewstone (Oxford University) – Professor in Social Psychology whose research includes work on intergroup relations, and how we can reduce prejudice and conflict.

Dr Harry Verhoeven (Oxford University) – Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Politics whose research focuses on conflict, development and environment in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes Region, with regional expertise relating to Rwanda.

Dr Andrea Pudeková (Oxford University) – Departmental lecturer in African Politics, whose research is mainly focused on the Great Lakes Region of Africa and includes how states and groups can build unity and if unity imposed from above can work.

Date: 10th April 2014
Time: Open exhibition and drop in discussion from 4:30pm (and again from 7pm)
Panel Discussion starting at 6pm
Location: New College, Oxford

To confirm your place for the panel discussion please email: [email protected]

Whilst the event is free we would welcome donations, all of which will be passed onto SURF, to support the invaluable work that they do in working with the survivors and their families of the Rwandan genocide. SURF funds, supports and builds activities, organisations and programmes that are run by and for survivors of the Rwandan genocide. You can donate ahead of the event here: www.virginmoneygiving.com/fundrwanda

Please come and show your support for this cause.
