Persepolis is the exuberant and critically acclaimed story of an Iranian girl’s self-awakening, as she experiences the emotional travails of adolescence against the backdrop of the Iranian Revolution. Based on the autobiographical graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi, the film’s beautiful black-and-white animation is a striking reminder of the power of the drawn image. The screening will be introduced by Kaveh Moussavi, Associate Fellow at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, who will address some of the themes raised by the film and assess the social and political currents in Iran since the film’s release.
