Next Thursday, 24th of October, The ISIS hosts a Speaker Panel on Contemporary Literature. Speakers include Adam Mars-Jones, Kamila Shamsie, Bernard O’Donoghue and Abigail Williams.
They will be discussing the value of each of their specialist types of writing, be it writing novels, poetry, academic journals, articles or literary criticism. They will also explore how each type of writing interacts with the other, in the relationship between writers and literary critics for example.
Current issues will be investigated such as literature and the written word today, young writers in the UK, the closure of local libraries and bookshops, the impact of technology on writing and the value of arts subjects on the curriculum. The panel will subsequently be opened up to a Q&A from the audience in order to raise further points and engage with the speakers.
Starting at 19:30, at the Albion Beatnik bookshop in Jericho, Oxford. There will be a chance to meet and continue the conversation with the speakers informally after the discussion. Entry is £3. All are welcome to attend.
