Hospital and other health services aim to provide safe, healing and therapeutic environments for patients and others during illness and incapacity, rehabilitation and recovery. However, patient safety continues to be an area of real concern nationally and internationally, in both acute and community settings.

Despite best efforts, every year internationally, there can be thousands of episodes of care which may result in varying degrees of patient harm.

In this lecture Debra will discuss how enabling the development of whole-of-systems cultures of safety can provide sustainable and flexible strategies to reduce the risk of harm to patients and promote optimal patient outcomes.
