Professor Sir Clive Booth was appointed Director of Oxford Polytechnic in 1986.
On his watch, an extraordinary institutional transformation took place, from a polytechnic supported by the county council to a fully fledged university. He will reflect on the challenges and controversies of those times and share some amusing recollections of his experiences.
Sir Clive’s talk will cover the twists and turns of Labour and Conservative government policies on higher education, a history of Oxford Polytechnic and Oxford Brookes and what it was like to be “in charge” during periods of huge change.
