Ilan Pappé, Israeli new historian and human rights activist, will be speaking as part of Oxford Israeli Apartheid Week. The talk will be chaired by Professor David Priestland, St Edmund Hall.
Ilan Pappe is Professor of History and Director of the European Centre for Palestine Studies at Exeter University. He completed his doctorate at St Antony’s College, Oxford and between 1984 and 2006 was a senior lecturer in the department of Middle Eastern History and the Department of Political Science in Haifa University. Professor Pappe has written a number of ground-breaking studies on the history of Israel/Palestine, among them ‘The Making of the Arab-Israel Conflict, 1947-1951’, ‘The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine’ and ‘The Idea of Israel’. His forthcoming ‘The Biggest Prison on Earth: The Israeli Occupation of Palestine’ will be published this year.
Oxford Israeli Apartheid week is hosted by the Oxford Student’s Arab Cultural Society.
