Speakers: Al Cutter & Eran Messeri are half of the team working on Google’s Certificate Transparency project and will be explaining what exactly Certificate Transparency is, what are they trying to achieve with it, and who the project is designed to defend against.

Background: There are several structural flaws in the SSL certificate system, which is the main cryptographic system underlying all HTTPS connections.  They’ll give an overview of some of the issues surrounding SSL certificates, how Certificate Transparency can help address those issues and makes active attacks difficult and expensive even for resource-laden entities. They’ll also detail how it works behind the scenes and the project’s current progress.

Following recent stories of NSA and GCHQ breaking encryption and inserting weaknesses into security programs, cryptography is more important that ever. This is a great chance to learn about it and ask a lot of questions.
