Sarah’s background is in social care, where she worked as a Social Worker before becoming a lecturer in social work for the last 15 years. Her passion lies in social justice, equality of opportunity, ensuring that support is available when it is needed and accessible to all. Part of ELOP’s work for the last 8 years has been in supporting LGBT asylum seekers and Sarah has spoken at a variety of panel events on the mental health needs of LGBT asylum seekers. Sarah Humphreys was one of the founding members of ELOP: LGBT Mental Health and Wellbeing, almost 25 years ago, and she has remained a key advocate ever since. Sarah holds the Chair position of ELOP’s management board and supports the strategic direction of the charity.
Sarah has represented ELOP on The National LGB&T Partnership for a number of years, leading on their annual recognition of lesbian, bisexual and trans (LBT) women with their LBT Women’s Health Week initiatives. She has engaged in a range of consultative support and community research to enable LGBT voices to be heard on a local level.
