About Maarten

Maarten is a founding member of the collective Rotor where he currently works as designer, manager and researcher. Whilst at Rotor, he’s collaborated on extensive exhibition projects including OMA/ Progress (Barbican Art Gallery, London in 2011), Usus / Usures (Belgian pavilion at the 2010 Venice Architecture Biennale), and Ex Limbo (Fondazione Prada, Milan in 2011). In 2012 he was appointed visiting professor to HEAD in Geneva and he later curated, with Lionel Devlieger, the Oslo Architecture Triennial in 2014. In 2015 he was awarded with the Rotterdam-Maaskant prize.

About ROTOR

Founded in 2005, Rotor is a group of architects, designers and other professionals interested in material flows in industry and construction, particularly in relation to resources, waste, use and reuse. Rotor disseminates creative strategies for salvage and waste reduction through workshops, publications and exhibitions. They represented Belgium at the 12th International Architecture Exhibition in the Venice Biennale in 2010. Their exhibition, Usus/ Usures explored ‘wear’ as a reaction to ‘use’ in architecture and as a potential creative process.

Throughout 2011, they curated ‘ex limbo’, an installation of OMA designs for the Prada Foundation and catwalk, designed the curation of the OMA/Progress show in the Barbican Art Gallery in London and created an overview of the work of Rem Koolhaas’s Office for Metropolitan Architecture. At the 2013 Oslo Architecture Triennale, they curated a vast exhibition on the challenges facing ‘sustainable’ architecture today, called ‘Behind the Green Door’.
