What does Christianity have to do with bodies? There’s a lingering sense that there is an massive gap between our inner and outer selves – our bodies and our souls – and that the inner self is good, ‘spiritual’, and the body isn’t. But that opens up a huge number of questions. What roles do our hearts and minds, and even our bodies, play in our spiritual lives? And what does it mean that we are now called to embody the Spirit of Christ in the world today

Paula Gooder, renowned Biblical scholar, says that the Bible tells a much more complicated story about our bodies than we might think. She will explore what a Biblical spirituality for the whole person might be, drawing particularly on Paul’s writings about the Resurrection, and reveal how we are called to relate to God with the whole of our selves – soul and body, mind and heart.
Paula Gooder is Theologian in Residence for the Bible Society, and Canon Theologian of Birmingham and Guildford Cathedrals. She is the author of numerous, bestselling books about the Bible and contemporary Christianity including Body: A Biblical Spirituality for the Whole Person (SPCK), Journey to the Manger (Canterbury Press) and Heaven (SPCK).
