The God Woden was the Patron ancestor-god of the East Anglian royal family during the period when Paganism was transitioning to Christianity. Tonights’ speaker takes this fact and goes further, arguing that in the Sutton Hoo burial itself we can see an active cult of Woden and his spirit-forms, the eagle and the wolf. He introduces new evidence drawn from experimental archaeology to supplement the traditional analysis. We invite you to come, learn and consider the thesis. Stephen Pollington has written many books on anglo-saxon England, most recently Elder Gods – The Otherworld in Early England. He is a good speaker and returns to Treadwell’s with a warm welcome back.
