This lecture is based on a paper by Professor Ian Arbon at Compressors 2017 and traces the author’s own experience of innovation in the gas compression business from starting as an apprentice at Peter Brotherhood Ltd in 1967 up to the present day and his involvement as Chairman of Vert Rotors UK Ltd with the highly-innovative and potentially ‘disruptive’ Conical Rotary Screw Compressor technology.
Join to hear coverage of some of the ‘milestones’ of pioneering gas compressor design and application over that half-century, from building large API618 reciprocating compressors on the shop floor at PBL, through designing large API617 centrifugal compressors at DeLaval Stork in the Netherlands, to axial-flow and twin-screw compressors with M.A.N-GHH in Germany, the UK and the USA. This experience was followed by Prof Arbon’s years as, successively, MD of Howden Compressors Ltd, Caledonian Compressors Ltd and Peter Brotherhood Ltd. Throughout career, he has been presented with new applications which have required solutions that, at the time, required novel and innovative technology development, no matter how mainstream some of them have since become (e.g. the use of oil-injected twin-screw compressors on process gases).
This lecture is free to attend.
