Kate Humble in conversation with conservationist Fernando Trujillo, who recently featured in the award-winning documentary ‘A River Below’ about the illegal killing of Amazonian river dolphins. The evening will include extracts of the film plus a chance to hear from Fernando himself, the world’s leading expert on river dolphins.
We hope you can join us for what promises to be a fascinating evening with Whitley Gold Award winner, Fernando Trujillo, who recently starred in the award-winning documentary, A River Below.
Fernando Trujillo, Whitley Award winner Kate Humble, BBC television presenter
The film exposes the illegal killing of Amazonian river dolphins to sustain the mota fish industry, and the high levels of toxic mercury making their way into the food chain and onto people’s plates. The film follows Fernando’s campaign to tackle this at the political level and highlights the very real risks conservationists face in South America. It asks what sacrifices are acceptable in the fight for this endangered animal and what are the bigger social, economic and environmental issues involved?
Hosted by BBC presenter, Kate Humble, the evening will include extracts from the film (which won Best Environmental Documentary at Sheffield Doc/Fest this year) as well as a chance to hear from Fernando himself; the world’s leading expert on river dolphins. We also hope to be joined by WFN Trustee, Sir David Attenborough (filming schedule permitting).
