St Paul’s Institute are hosting a major public debate with world famous public philosopher Michael Sandel from Harvard University. Professor Sandel will be helping the audience to consider some of the most pressing issues currently confronting our society today; asking ‘What has become of the common good? Is Democracy in peril?’
The debate will be in the style of a Socratic dialogue with a panel of 100 young people on the stage. The focus of the discussion will be on how we can apply common good thinking to matters such as the free movement of people and of capital.
The audience are invited to watch this debate and then take part in a Q&A session. Professor Sandel will then be signing books at the end of the event and there will be a book stall.
This is the launch of a wider programme of events hosted by St Paul’s Institute. This programme seeks to promote a national conversation about personal fulfilment and community flourishing as a basis for a policy framework to address the sources of current widespread economic and cultural insecurity.
