Professor Pariante’s talk is entitled “Depression and the Immune System: from Madonna to Lady Gaga”: The hypothesis of a link between depression and the immune system was first proposed in the ’80s, but the conceptual framework underpinning this hypothesis has shifted dramatically over the years, in the same way that musical taste and pop icons have changed. Nevertheless, today, as in the ’80s, this remains an engaging and though-provoking area of research, which strikes at the core of the relationship between the mind and the body, and is relevant to the whole life-span, from pregnancy to old age: a subject that will continue to excite both scientists and the public.

The lecture is free and open to everyone to attend including members of the public. To book a place please contact [email protected]
