Killing Your Right To Know: The Global Threat To Journalism

We live today in a world in which information and explanation are more important than ever – and yet the jobs of those who inform and explain are becoming more dangerous than ever. While killings of journalists for their professional activities may be sadly common in some parts of the world, the murder in Malta late last year of the investigative reporter Daphne Caruana Galizia showed that even in the European Union journalists can face deadly threats.

The Department of Journalism, in conjunction with the Erasmus Mundus Programme of which it is a proud partner, is arranging a special event, ‘’Killing your right to know: the global threat to journalism’ to discuss these issues, and possible responses.

We are pleased to announce that the Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Matthew Caruana Galizia, Daphne Caruana Galizia’s son, will be among the speakers.

We also delighted to welcome to the panel, Jeremy Bowen, BBC’s Middle East Editor and Rebecca Vincent, Director of the London Bureau of Reporters without Borders.
