Radical psychologist Rufus May details his experiences of treating patients with a person-centred, drug free approach and proposes a new understanding of mental illness. Rufus will be accompanied on the panel by ordinary people who have had experience of the mental health system and who will recount their own experiences of living with mental illness, the treatments they have received and the ways they found to deal with it.
This talk is part of a series, which is part of the research and development of “The Poetry of Madness” an innovative performance project fusing art, science and personal experience. Attempting to shed new light on a much stigmatised and misunderstood subject, each public discussion will be accompanied by live poetry performances.
