The treasure we look for is hidden in the ground on which we stand. Henri Nouwen
It’s easy to think of our spiritual lives as belonging to special places and special times; perhaps church services, or maybe beautiful, quiet places in the country where we feel at peace. But Jesus lived out a great deal of his ministry in the city, among ordinary situations and with ordinary people, and taught them – and us – that that is where the Kingdom of God is to be found. Margaret Silf also says that the transformation of our lives comes not with the big things but in every decision we make, however small. She will invite us to look afresh at our everyday, urban lives, and to find God’s transforming presence in them. We will consider creativity, prayer and sacredness at home, in our work (not only our jobs, but whatever fires our passions) and on the move in the city.
Margaret Silf is a world-renowned retreat leader and guide to the Christian spiritual journey. Her many best-selling and much-loved books include Sacred in the City, Landscapes of Prayer and The Way of Wisdom (all Lion Books).
Cost £40 per reflective day, bursaries available. The days include reflective worship, lunch and other refreshments and take place at St Katherine’s Foundation in Limehouse, East London (www.rfsk.org.uk).
We are very grateful to our partners at St Katharine’s for co-hosting these days. Bursaries are available for those for whom the charge would make it difficult to attend: please contact us for details.
